Coordinator: Alejandro Pelfini

Deep changes in the world system and in the societies around the world are challenging many fields of the social sciences and its research schedules. The analysis in various dimensions of the globalization dynamics and processes and also of their effects is starting to dominate the academic work and the public discussions.

The scientific speech, the social, political and economic environment at the national and international level as well as the everyday life are increasingly related to or more or less constrained by matters concerning global changes. The development of an academic program regarding this subject is considered essential to ease the analytical approximation and the acquisition of proper skills to decode these issues. Furthermore, it is important to think of new intellectual examples and the methodologies that, in many parts of the world, intend to analyze the recent global changes in this way incorporating the different views of analysis. Apart from trying to break down the positive and negative effects of globalization as if it were an autonomous and natural force, the Global Studies Program intends to analyze this scenario and develop the skills to act efficiently therein, either in the capacity of social scientists, decision-makers in public or private administration, articulators of claims of the civil society or communicators.

By attending this program in four branches (first six-month period in Friburge/Germany, second six-month period in Buenos Aires/Argentina or in Durban/South Africa, third six-month period in New Delhi/India and fourth six-month period again in Friburge, after completion of residency), the students are offered the most updated research on the subject, as being developed in many continents, and are trained in an inter-disciplinary manner for their subsequent academic career (doctoral degree), scientific applied research or professional practice at organizations located in the interface between local and global.
